This year is Canada’s 150th and to help you mark the occasion we’ve put together a list of 150 breweries to visit in 2017. To whittle down the more than 700 breweries in Canada, the Prostly team and our community of beer enthusiasts shared some of their favourite spots from coast to coast to coast, factoring in population and geography to bring us to the final list.
This is only a small taste of Canada’s incredible craft beer scene. We’ll be featuring some of Canada’s best beers, bars and breweries throughout 2017 so if your favourite is missing, let us know. And if you make it to all 150, we definitely want to hear from you. Prost!

Greystone brewery Fredericton and Big Axe Brewery in Nackawick two fantastic breweries to add to many of the existing and new breweries here in NB
Agreed! New to the scene is Off Grid and Think brewing companies in Harvey, York County, N.B. Can’t recommend Off Grid’s High Tower Double IPA enough!
Amazing – thanks for the recommendations. Hoping to do more comprehensive regional guides in the months ahead and will definitely include these suggestions. Looking forward to visiting as well. Cheers!
Grimross in Fredericton too
Tool Shed Brewing Company in Calgary.
Thanks Jess! We’re visiting Calgary this fall and will definitely visit. Cheers.
Yeah! Where’s toolshed!?
NWT Brewing Co is amazing! And it’s also in Yellowknife, not wherever you randomly put it on the map of the territories.
Hi Lo, thanks for the comment! The map we used for the graphic is pretty far from accurate in any way shape or form. I’ve adjusted the point – hopefully it better reflects where Yellowknife is actually located, at least as a rough estimation on a map with various oddly curved borders. Please accept our apologies. Looking forward to continuing to follow NWT Brewing Co. Cheers and thanks again!
Black Creek Brewery in Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto. Made in the pioneer village!
Thanks for the tip Nancy. We’d love to visit Black Creek sometime soon (especially as a York U alumni). Cheers! ^JP
paddys brew pub kentville and wolfville nova scoria is not on this list. best craft beer!

Wow are you ever missing some bad ass breweries in New Brunswick!!
Hey Robb – Send us your picks. This list was built on reader and contributor suggestions – not a top 150 list. There are so many great breweries across the country (with more opening weekly) so we’re hoping to do a deeper dive by region in the months ahead. Let us know your favourites as we don’t want to miss anyone. Cheers and thanks for the comment.
Hell’s Basement brewery in Medicine Hat, Alberta is a great addition to this list.
Thanks for the suggestion! Looking forward to another Alberta visit soon and to featuring more great breweries in the province. Alberta seems to have an abundance of them – cheers!
Brewsters brewing company in either Calgary or Edmonton
Thanks Don – we’re back in Alberta this fall and will be sure to check them out.
Seriously. Who did this list?! You should go out and actually try brewpubs/drink some beers next time… geez.
We spend much of our free time drinking in pubs and breweries (perhaps to a fault) – but definitely hard to keep up with all the great ones opening up across the country. Re the list: it was generated by suggestions from our readers and contributors across the country. Definitely not comprehensive nor a “best of” list. Just 150 to check out this year. We’re hoping to do a deeper dive by region in future issues and would love your top picks so we don’t miss anyone. Thanks for the comment!
Also Le Corsaire !!!
Amazing Beers, in Levis, QC.
Thanks for the recommendation! Excited to visit sometime soon.
Many missing from list…leaving off Steam Whistle in Toronto is a sacrilege. Arch Brewing in Newmarket as well as several in Nova Scotia eg. Saltbox Brewing in Mahone Bay. Someone didn’t do their (recent) homework as most of these have been open for months – if not years!
Thanks Don – great suggestions. Steam Whistle is definitely one of the iconic Toronto craft breweries and the location is more than worth a visit! The list was generated by reader and contributor suggestions (and weighted by geography and population). Definitely not a “best of” list. Looking forward to doing a deeper dive to feature more great breweries, as well as to compiling some more comprehensive regional guides in future issues. Thanks for the comment!
Collective Arts is in Hamilton, not Burlington. And Nickel Brook’s actual brewery is in Hamilton too.
Microbrasserie des Beaux-Prés here! thanks for the mention 🙂 hope you enjoyed your visit
Thanks you! Looking forward to a visit again sometime soon. ????
Split Rail Brewing Co. located in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island really needs to be on this list. Their Hawberry Ale and Loon Song Stout are my favorites and after all they were the first ones to be producing craft beer on the Manitoulin Island. Check them out at http://www.splitrailmanitoulin.com
Thanks Sally! We haven’t had a chance to check out Split Rail yet but will definitely plan a road trip.
There’s La Voie Maltée in Saguenay (Chicoutimi and Jonquiere) and in Québec City. Also, la Microbrasserie du Lac in St-Gendon. All of those in province of Quebec.
You can add Mill Street in Ottawa and Toronto, Broadhead, Covered Bridge and Whiprsnpr in Ottawa.
Finally, The Gahan House in PEI is also a good place.
Thanks Christian for the suggestions! Québec has an abundance of world class brewers and we’re excited to keep working to feature them in the months and years ahead. We’ll be in Charlottetown in a few weeks as well so we’ll definitely stop by Gahan House as well. Much appreciated!
Missing is arguably the best brewery in Canada… dieu du ciel
Hi Archer – its in there! We’ve listed by official business name “Microbrasserie Dieu du Ciel”. Also planning another visit there in the coming weeks to feat. more fully. Thanks for the comment!
